Midge's sore paw

Sadly Paul and Midge have had to abandon their adventure in Wales as Midge developed an abcess on his foot.   Wishing him a speedy recovery.  xxx

From Paul:

Sorry to say that we are home. Midge had been limping badly for a couple of days and I thought it was because of wear on his pads. This morning he had a huge abscess on his paw. No wonder he has been in pain and having problems. I decided that he needed to come home and get it sorted. However, it seems to have sorted itself as he left a trail of blood and puss on the floor of Llandovery tourist centre where we went to get info about trains home and even more on the concourse at Birmingham New Street Station. This reduction in pressure in his foot seems to have improve his symptoms greatly but I would not want to have to make him walk in excess of 20 miles per day while he is recovering from this. Unfortunately I could not wait until he improved and carry on because I stupidly agreed to work so I have to do that. Never mind, there will be another chance.

Midge and Paul's Grand Tour of Wales

On 5th June 2014 Midge and his dad Paul set off on their latest big adventure.
This is another amazing adventure for them as Midge is completely blind - although he doesn't let it EVER stand in his way.   Last year Midge and his dad walked and ran in excess of 4000 miles!

The route they are following is:

Conwy to Carnedd Gwenllian (or somewhere near)
Carnedd Gwenllian to Llanberis
Llanberis to Molwyn Mawr (or nearby)
Molwyn Mawr to Trawsfynydd
Trawsfynydd to Barmouth
Barmouth to Camaes
Camaes to Plynlymon
Plynlymon to Pontrhyfendigaid
Pontrhyfendigaid to Rhandirmwyn
Rhandirmwyn to Craig -y -Nos
Craig Y Nos to Crickhowell
Crickhowell to Hay on Wye.
Hay on Wye to Knighton
Knighton to Mellington Hall
Mellington Hall to Nant Mawr
Nant Mawr to Llangollen
Llangollen to Llandegla
Llandegla to Bodfari
Bodfari to Prestatyn
Train home!!

This will be the second longest trek Midge and Paul have done and is probably tougher than John O'Groats to Land's End which they did last year - the first Wiccaweys team to do John O'Groats to Land's End, and as far as we are all aware, the first blind dog to ever do so.
Their adventure this time should take about 3 weeks.

The Cambrian Mountain section of their Grand Tour is supposed to be one of the toughest walks in Britain. Paul says the good thing about this route is that he does not know anyone who has done it and many seasoned walkers have said "we are a bit mad to try it. Maybe we are. :-D"

Paul & Midge would like to ask folks to sponsor their adventure for Wiccs.  Paul says this might be Midge's last big trip as he is now 10 - although he has had more retirements than Frank Sinatra - so it is fitting that he does it for the rescue that gave him his new start in life.  Their trip will be a 400+ mile trek with 80,000 feet of ascent over all the main mountains and hills of Wales   Paul will post their progress as they go.  You can keep up with their progress here:

Midge is such an fantastic ambassador for both Wiccaweys and blind dogs and we wish Paul and Midge a very safe and successful trip.   We are really looking forward to the updates and photos.  If you would like a taste of their adventures together, you can read about their John O'Groats to Land's End trip here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/96498796/Paul%20and%20Midge%20JOGLE.pdf
