Happy New Year!!!

Happy new year to all our lovely Wiccs family, friends, doggies and adopters.   Wishing you all a very happy and peaceful 2013.   Hoping all your dreams and wishes come true.

Paul and I have had a busy christmas with the lovely residents here.  We have some gorgeous doggies waiting for new families.   We had some emergencies come in over the festive period, 2 gorgeous boys from a home where their owner passed away.    We also branched out at the request of a dog warden and environmental officer we work very closely with and were involved in the urgent removal of 3 ponies from a hideous situation.  We had already removed 3 dogs a couple of weeks before, but sadly no horse rescues were able to help with the ponies, so we stepped when asked.    We have taken in 2 young mini Shetlands and a lovely aged Eriskey mare.    They are currently on foster with a very good volunteer of Wiccs as she was closer for the ponies to travel to.  On arrival they were immediately examined by her excellent horse vet and we were informed that the Shetlands were only a few days away from dying of starvation.  The vet said in all of his 35 years of vet practice he'd never seen such emaciated and worm infested ponies.  They are now being fed and wormed under vet supervision and we are keeping everything crossed for them.   They are 3 & 5 years respectively.  The Eriskey mare was in slightly better condition weight wise, but not by much.    When the team arrived to collect the ponies, she didn't need to asked twice.  She more or less loaded herself onto the horsebox and then called for her little friends to be brave and follow her up.   She just looked forward and more or less whinnied "Drive, Drive DRIVE!!!   Go, Go GO!!!"   Bless her heart, she is a very brave girl and such a character.  She needs her teeth done asap as she can barely hold her food in her mouth.   She couldn't believe her luck when she first arrived at the foster home and saw a gorgeous clean stable full of comfy bedding and hay to eat!   For the past couple of months she has been locked in stable trying to eat dirty bedding as that was all she had available.   She was so excited she didn't know whether to roll or eat, so she did both and had a good roll whilst keeping her head firmly in the feed bucket at the same time!!    Tears all round at that point.   Her little friends followed suit and there were more tears as they discovered fresh hay and a bit of hard feed for the first time.  The shetties didn't know what hard feed was and looked at it in bewilderment at first.   Please can everyone keep their fingers crossed for them, and updates and photos will follow asap.

Other news, you may have noticed the website itself hasn't been updated for a couple of weeks.  The Wiccs trusty old laptap finally keeled over and gave up the ghost.  A new one has arrived and although we are almost there, we still need to recover a lot of information and files from the old computer and reload the design programmes used for the website.  Bear with us on that one as we have to fit it in around the day to day jobs.   We also need to recover old emails.

So we have some lovely new arrivals that haven't appeared on the website yet, and of course some luckky dogs will have found new homes.  :-)

Best wishes,

Sarah & Paul
