A weekend of surprises!!
It's been a weekend full of surprises! FIRST SURPRISE. On Saturday I took the Wiccs stall to Watford DTC agility show (thanks guys for inviting us). It was a wet and windy day - not anything like June! I only went with 1 dog - little Gem was riding shot gun with me, and spent most of the day sulking in her car because it was raining! I managed to come back home with 2 dogs! While I was there a chap was talking about a Standard Poodle boy who needed to find a home urgently as his Mum had just lost her battle to be able to keep him at her home, and a court order had been given to make her give him up! A few phone call conversations and Archie arrived at the show ground, and came back home to Wiccs with us. He is a very lovely lad - and I think most folks know I have a soft spot for Standard Poos. He will looking for a home where he can work, as he is one smart cookie. :) That was the first surprise of the day. SECOND SURPRISE. I arrived home to find Wiccs HQ a bustle of activity - it was the super secret surprise birthday party that I *didn't* know anything about.... ;) The lovely Amanda & Ros, with much help from Karen, had organised it to be held on the Summer Solstice for me, and it was a great evening. Ros's homemade mead flowed freely, and I let my hair down big time. A brilliant time was had by all with much merry-making, dancing and games. I had such a good time, I had to be put to bed in the end! LOL! Oppphssss! I should know Ros's mead by now. By what the heck, you are only 40 once - although I seem to have strung it out for the past few weeks! TeeeHeeee!! Thank you to everyone who came, HUGE thanks to Ros, Amanda & Karen. I had some lovely presents too. YIPPHEEEE!!! SUNDAY MORNING. The dog barn became the post party chill-out zone! Thankfully yesterdays visitors weren't booked in until the afternoon, which meant we were able of speech again! LOL! 3 lucky dogs found new families and heading off to pastures new. THIRD SURPRISE. 5 weeks after arriving here, Madge has gave us a big surprise last night! She's whelped! She hasn't shown at all, the little sneaky puppy smuggler! She would have been spayed, but she was so thin and came in with such a rotten dose of kennel cough that really lingered on and on, that the vet didn't want to neuter her until she was fitter. Anyone who knows me, knows I am the neutering queen! Any bitch who arrives showing any signs of season, or a potential pregancy is spayed asap after arriving - so she kept her little packages well hidden! She was booked in to be done in a couple of weeks time! Thanks goodness she hadn't actually found a new home yet. Paul went out last night to put the dogs to bed, and Madge had taken herself up a corner and was refusing to come. Paul investigated, heard a squeak and spotted a little pup! A few mad minutes later, and Madge and pup were safely ensconced in the kitchen in a very big dog bed. We have 6 little girls, Mum and babies are doing very well. Pics to follow soon. What a weekend!!!!

Splish Splash.....
Jasper has been swimming!!! He was a bit worried at first, but then settled into it. We gave him about 5 mins to start off. He did use his leg for some of it, which was fantastic! Once he got out again, he did use his leg again for standing, and even walking! We forgot to take the camera round with us this time, but we will get him next time. He is back to the vets this week for new x-rays, so we will see how everything is getting on internally. We are very excited for him. The Weekend. It was a very busy one - we had 2 events on. Saturday was Clicker Training, and Sunday was a Working Trials Taster Day. 2 great days, thanks to some very generous trainers and people. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The big 40! Yesterday was my 40th birthday, and I was overwhelmed by the cards, email and presents sent to me. I couldn't believe it. Tom in Eire wrote me a poem and framed it, and some very special people clubbed together and bought me a fantastic pencil drawing of my beloved Grandad Brynn. A supporters daughter drew it and it is just amazing, and has captured him perfectly. His eyes, totally amazing, I can see his soul again. It is just stunning.

Revving Up
Getting ready for the first of this weeks early hours pick-ups. Weather is throughly miserable here at the moment, so hope it's a bit better in the early hours. Also hope it clears up for the training days at the weekend. Not had chance to check the forecast yet. You wouldn't think it was the beginning of June. I want to cut the grass and get it ready for the weekend! LOL! Hydro Pool. We are still waiting for the water to warm up ready for Jasper, but we do have a rubber duck floating around keeping an eye on the temperature for us! Me. Feeling a bit low again at the moment. Not sure why. Just do. I'm sure I'll feel better when I've cut the grass!

Whooops!
Apologises to all Wiccs Blog followers. The past weeks seem to have run away with me and I'm rather delayed in updating everyone. JASPER. Firstly, a very important update for you all. Jasper, the brave little man that he is, soldiers on. His physio is going well, and a couple of our regular volunteers, especially Eleanor, are helping out with that greatly. The hydrotheraphy pool is up and filled. Paul & another supporter, Dale, have finished what needed doing to get it organised today, and the water is heating up as I type. Hopefully by the next time I blog we will have pics of Jasper swimming. He still isn't using his leg for walking yet, but he has been using it when he forgets not too - which must be good news. He cocked his leg the other day and used his bad leg on the ground while he cocked the other one, and yesterday he definately attempted to scratch behind his ear using his bad leg. I'm phoning Rafa the vet this week to see when he is next due for a checkup. Please keep your fingers in the firmly crossed position for him. BUSY, BUSY. Life plods on a Wiccs. We've had lots of new arrivals, and the 'wild pups' from LAW have finally arrived. They are a bunch of hooligans and no mistake! Their story is that they were born wild in Ireland. When they were only a few months old their mother was hit by a car and killed. LAW volunteers spent a few days catching the puppies, and when they arrived in rescue they were terrified of humans, not having know them. Then they were seriously ill, and one pup sadly passed over the Rainbow Bridge. LAW have worked wonders socialing this little group and pulling them through their poorly tummies. They are now full of life and excelling in causing as much noise, havoc and chaos as they possibly can, whilst throwing the best puppy pooh parties in the world! Ewwwwww!! MAD WEEK COMING. We have a manic week ahead of us! Lots of vet runs this week. Lost of calls to catch up on. Behavioural assessments to organise. The Blue Cross would like us to go and assess a deaf collie they have in. We have 2 lots of Irish arrivals coming - both early hours runs. That's Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday we have the Landlords insurance people coming round for their yearly assessment to renew their insurance policy. Visitors on Thursday. On Saturday we have our Clicker Training Day, and on Sunday we have our Working Trials Taster Day. And then next Monday I hit the big 40!!
