Midge's Stories.

When Midge & his dad Paul go on their super dooper endurance walking/running adventures, they make up stories to tell each other in the evenings. Paul admits that the stories Midge makes up are much better than his, so he and Midge have decided to let everyone read them. Paul & Midge hope you will like them and will donate to Wiccaweys to help other dogs like Midge and like the little collie in their story. Midge's Stories

Catching Up

Busy weekend, with a few old friends finding new homes. :) The big news was our grannie pups Molly & Lady finding a new home. There was tears all round as they headed off for pastures new. A huge thanks to their foster mum of the last 7 months, Eleanor.... who seemed to spend the weekend crying.... More on why else she was crying will follow at a later date....... cryptic hey? Guesses on a postcode.... Auction News. The christmas auction is up and running on the forum. We have lovely prints to be found here: Art Auction & other goodies in the christmas bazaar section here: Bazaar including the Mary Ray training day. :) Jasper Update. The boy wonder is amazing us all. He has recovered fantastically well and looks great. He is such a happy dog and everyone loves him to bits! Tired. We are both very tired at the moment, as I am sure a lot of people in rescue are. Not only are we rescuing, caring for the dogs, giving advice and all the rest of it, we seem to be spending a lot of time counselling as well at the moment. So many folks are calling for help because the credit crunch is hitting and they are losing homes. It is desperately sad. It is heartwrenching to listen to their heartbreak and try and do what you can. Sometime words and even helping isn't enough. How can you heal their hearts? We feel for each and every one. It tires me out and makes me wonder why when people get upset and irate about silly unimportant things and expect you to jump, when there is such sadness and heartache going on, and people and their dogs are really suffering because of it.

The news you've all been waiting for - Jasper!

Firstly, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who supported the ‘Jasper & Friends Appeal’ organised by Wiccaweys Volunteer Liz Clarke. The speed of peoples response to Liz's rallying cry was totally amazing and very emotional. We would like to send a special thanks to those extremely kind hearted anonymous donators who we have no other way of thanking. You are lovely and very special people. Thank you to the folks who have phoned to see how things are going, and in some cases, just to see how we all are. :)

We are really pleased to be able to tell you that thanks to your kindness and generosity Jasper has now had his operation and amputation and is recovering very well. I have popped a post-op update from his foster mum and a photo below for you.

From Jenny, Jasper’s Foster Mum:
‘I really didn’t know what to expect when Sarah and I picked Jasper up last Tuesday, however right from the moment Rafa brought him through it was obvious I he wasn’t going to be the invalid I was half expecting. It is hard to explain the difference, physically his coat is really glossy and his movement around the house and garden is remarkable. Mentally, he is happier and more confident. He will barge past me now and wait by the door hoping to be taken out for a walk. Jasper appears to have adapted to the loss of his leg with the minimum of fuss, to a certain extent I would say relief. Jasper to me is a dog that loves life and everything in his world is cool’
Jasper is such a happier boy. I suppose in most cases when a dog loses a leg, they are going from 4 working legs to 3 and it is a huge step for them to learn how to cope. In Jasper's case it has actually come as a relief to him. He has been using 3 legs for so long, with just his wonky leg hanging and ocassionally being used as a prop. Now it is gone, he is lighter, faster and you can visibly see the relief in his face that the dead weight has finally gone. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I do wish we'd just amputated in the first place now. But I guess we had to give the leg a chance.

Thank you once again for all your support, well wishes and good thoughts. Everyone at Wiccaweys appreciates it, especially the wonderful Jasper. Now this operation is over, it really is the start of his new life, and you have all become an important part of Jasper’s story, and his journey to rediscover life, love and ultimately a family and home of his own. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Love to all,

Sarah & Paul
